ProGrip High Friction Surfacing System

ProGrip is a high friction surfacing system designed to increase road safety by providing higher levels of skid resistance, texture and colour demarcation. ProGrip aids motorists negotiating curves and improves stopping distances where required.

ProGrip High Friction Surfacing System

ProGrip utilises materials with HAPAS BBA¹ accreditation and is available in two different systems:

  • Cold applied – Calcined Bauxite combined with a two part component epoxy resin system
  • Hot applied – Coloured surfacing system comprising of a thermoplastic hydro-carbon binder incorporating a graded 1-3mm Calcined bauxite aggregate

Our specialist surfacing teams take into consideration the treatment required and the surrounding environment for each site, suggesting preferred systems for best whole of life cost and performance.

Applications:

  • Pedestrian Crossings
  • Intersection Treatments
  • Bends or Curves
  • Rural town entrances
  • School Zones
  • Roundabouts
  • Bridges

Benefits of ProGrip:

  • Advance awareness through visibly safer approaches Improved stopping distances through high antiskid properties reducing the chance of an accident
  • Highly durable ensuring a long life safety solution
  • Varying methods with different curing times keeping traffic disruption to a minimum
  • Excellent colour retention providing a long life solution
  • Recycled aggregates - ecologically sustainable

  • Grading: 1 – 3mm aggregate
  • Colour: Grey or Buff colours are available
  • Curing times: Up to 4 hours

Friction Characteristics of a ProGrip Surface

ProGrip Calcined Bauxite aggregate micro-fractures rather than polishes and maintains its friction qualities for life. SRV2 readings of 70 or greater can be guaranteed for the life of the surfacing. BPN3 testing of skid resistance of new and aged surfaces indicates that the average SFC figure on sites in New Zealand, using the ProGrip aggregate are in the 85-95 BPN range for freshly laid surfaces, decreasing to, and stabilizing at, 75-85 BPN after 3-4 years in service. The finished system meets the following requirements:
